In celebration of Local Government Week, the Town of Smiths Falls is holding a competition to enlist the help of two student Councillors.

Deputy Clerk Nadine Bennett says the program was started 2014 and is a way that students can become involved in local politics.

To be considered for a position, students must be attending a local secondary school and must submit a 250 word essay indicating why they want to participate in the Student Councillor Program.

Essays must be submitted to Deputy Clerk Nadine Bennett by Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. and can be emailed to nbennett@smithsfalls.ca or delivered in person at Town Hall to her attention.
