Recommendation for street rehabilitation contract tabled in Smiths Falls

September 30, 2016 by

sf-constructionTown of Smiths Falls director of Public Works Troy Dunlop is recommending the town award a contract to rehabilitate various streets throughout the town to Thomas Cavanagh Construction for $242 thousand dollars.

Dunlop told Councillors at the town’s Sept. 26 Committee-of-the-Whole meeting that quotes were received from four companies, and that Thomas Cavanagh Construction was the lowest bidder.

The bid leaves a significant surplus of around $117 thousand dollars from what was originally budgeted for the project, but Dunlop told council that the scope of the project was cut back significantly to address a projected shortfall of nearly $143 thousand dollars on the Foster St. project.

This project involves rehabilitation of existing asphalt pavement on Brockville St. (from Alfred to Broadview), Rideau Ave. North (from Cornelia to Stephen), and Gilroy St. (from Lorne to MacKenzie).

Final approval to award the contract will be decided at the town’s next Council session on Monday, Oct. 3.
