As it stands, Rideau Lakes Township will be facing a $200,000 deficit at the end of this year.
The news came as Councillors prepare for 2017 budget deliberations.
A number of items have added up, resulting in the deficit. Among them: $80,000 in employment liability, and $10,000 in human resources legal fees.
The hiring of an Ombudsman accounts for another $30,000.
The Ombudsman has been hired to investigate the $1.1 million deficit that has grown over a number of years. That deficit came to light when a new auditor was brought in last year.
There were some savings reported too. Things like fuel and mileage budgets that haven’t been used added to the positive side of the ledger, while roads projects that never took off accounted for another $40,000.
