An anti-suicide prevention campaign is gaining steam on Facebook.
It can be worded in a few different ways, but users are asked to copy a status that reads something like: “It’s a hard time of the year for a lot of folks. A simple copy and paste might save someone's life.” There is a phone number circulating with it, but it is an American hotline.
It’s important to note the number to call in our region is 1-866-996-0991. That will connect those who need help with the Ottawa and Region Crisis Centre.
The Canadian Association of Suicide Prevention says that suicidal thinking is usually associated with problems that can be treated. They say it is important to realize that crises are usually time-limited. Solutions are found, feelings change, unexpected positive events occur.
In their message to people suffering suicidal thoughts, they add, don’t let suicide rob you of better times that will come your way when you allow more time to pass.
