In an update to Council on the proposed addition of Perth as stop on a new VIA rail line, Mayor John Fenik said that things are looking positive.
The Perth Courier reports that the Mayor told Counil last week that he met with VIA President Yves Desjardins-Siciliano earlier this month in Peterborough. The Mayor says it seems Desjardins-Siciliano’s plans to pursue the line are going “full steam ahead.”
Fenik told Council, “He was very clear at that meeting in saying that he is absolutely bound and determined to build this railroad.”
The Mayor was told that Desjardins-Siciliano will next seek to bring the plan to federal Transportation Minister Marc Garneau.
The line in question would run from Peterborough, through Havelock, to Perth and then connect to other lines through Smiths Falls.
