Former Perth Mayor Lowell Yorke

Former Mayor of Perth, Lowell Yorke is being remembered as giving member of his community and dedicated family man.

Yorke passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born and educated in Belleville and at Queen’s University, Yorke worked for several Perth manufacturing companies before becoming a co-owner of Code Felt Limited.

Lowell served as Mayor of the Town of Perth from 1985-1989.

He resigned as mayor in 1989 to become manager of the Perth Public Utilities Commission, a position he held until his retirement in 2001.

Current Mayor John Fenik released a statement. He wrote: "On behalf of Council and the citizens of Perth I wish to say, it was with great sadness that I learned of former Mayor Lowell Yorke’s passing. He was a kind, thoughtful man whose contributions to the community ‎were enormous. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family."

He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Kelly and Tom and their spouses as well as two sisters and grandchildren. He is also remembered by his extended family and many friends.

His funeral will be held in St. James Anglican Church, Perth on Friday at 10:00 A.M.
