The Smiths Falls Fire Department is urging the public to make sure that they have working smoke alarms on every storey of their home, and outside all sleeping areas.
They also remind us to practice a home fire escape plan with everyone in their home.
The reminder comes after an investigation by the Fire Marshal into a fatal fire in Brampton earlier this month revealed that there were no smoke alarms present in the residence.
Randy Normandin, Lieutenant-Fire Prevention says “Early detection and warning of a fire in your home is crucial to your survival.”
He added, “Our fire department is recommending that you also install a smoke alarm in every bedroom.”
He also said that it is important to make sure everyone in your home knows exactly what to do to escape before a fire occurs, and it is up to you to make sure these types of tragedies do not happen in Smiths Falls.
