The sign at the new safety zone

The Smiths Falls Police Service has announced it now has a dedicated area in the front parking lot for safe internet online exchanges and purchases.

A sign has been posted to show people where the area is.

Transactions may take place from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily, and they will be under video surveillance.

While the Smiths Falls Police Service says it is not responsible for monitoring these exchanges, they will get involved in any occurrence that involves a criminal offence.

The purpose of this internet safety zone, is to ensure the community has a safe place to conduct these transactions.

Other communities, such as Brockville, have a similar safe zone.

If you have any questions about it, just call Constable Aaron Tompkins at (613) 283-0357 ext. 1238.
