Changes made to closed meetings in Carleton Place

March 16, 2017 by

CP Council ChambersCarleton Place Councillors decided closed meetings will be held twice-a-month and that Councillor cell-phones are banned in council chambers during all council proceedings from now on.

Councillor Theresa Fritz said closed sessions were traditionally held during the twice-a-month Policy Review Committee meetings. Lately closed meetings have been added to other agendas.

Closed means members of the public and press are not permitted.

Closed meetings can be held at other times if the items are urgent or if the timing matches the availability of staff and workload.

As for cell phones, Councillors agreed they should be banned at all council proceedings which will help keep council focused on the agenda items.

Fritz said she thinks council should be able to accomplish what they need to during the twice-a-month closed sessions. She said it’s important to establish a process and keep things organized.
