Police officer dragged at traffic stop in Smiths Falls, suspect later caught and held

SF Police Car 01A man who fled police in Smiths Falls has been apprehended after initially taking off from police during a traffic stop.

The Smiths Falls Police Service reports that on the afternoon of Wednesday March 15 police conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle on Abbott Street North.  The thirty-one year old male driver was known to them and was a suspended driver.  They told him to turn off the car, but he put it in gear. Then when officers tried to turn it off for him, he took off dragging one a short distance.

Citing public safety, police did not engage in a pursuit and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Then, on Monday March 20th he was apprehended by the OPP’s R.O.P.E. Squad.

He faces a number of charges including dangerous driving, flight from police, assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer.

He was held for a bail hearing.
