The Carleton Place Drug Strategy Committee is hosting a talk tonight called the Cannabis Conversation tonight.

The public forum is targeting the guardians and parents and has assembled a group of guest speakers to talk about Marijuana ahead of legalization.

Committee Member Brian Turner tells Lake 88 they wanted to reach out to the public. "We feel the best way to apply our limited resources is to be able to inform the parents, guardians and public in general about the benefits and risks of cannabis, and about the changes that have happened."

Turner adds that they have asembled a group of experts to speak at the gathering. They include Dr. Manuela Joannou, a family physican from Perth; the OPP's Greg Streng; Mike Souliere, from the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre; Mike Beauchesne, from the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre; and Morgan Crew, a Registered Nurse with Lanark County Mental Health.

The invitation is open to all to attend. They plan on having their panelists discuss and answer questions on other related topics such as fentanyl and opioids.

It takes place at the Neelin Street Arena upper hall. The doors open at 6:30 pm, and refreshments will be served.

They will also be providing a supervised area for children.
