Carleton Place is set to host the fourth annual Eastern Ontario Active Transportation Summit at the end of May this year.
The summit is a series of workshops designed to encourage active transportation in Lanark County municipalities and in Easter Ontario as a whole.
Danielle Shewfelt of the Eastern Ontario Active Transportation Summit made a presentation to Carleton Place Council asking for support for this year’s summit. That's a request council agreed to without hesitation.
Shewfelt listed the many benefits for Carleton Place as hosts of the summit, like promoting the town and its unique offerings, attracting active transportation tourists like cyclists, hikers and kayakers to the downtown core and making these methods of transportation more friendly and safe in the community.
Deputy Mayor Jerry Flynn said council is excited to see these benefits in Carleton Place. The summit will take place May 31 and June 1.
