Carleton Place might introduce a bike share program to town this summer at the proposed price of $2, 850, an idea Carleton Place council said it supports at this week’s council meeting.
The proposal is to buy the bikes from an Ottawa bike share program but the plan is still in its beginning stages.
If all goes as planned, four bikes with baskets, fenders, a bell and three-speed shifting will be available for daily rental at the Chamber of Commerce and Information Centre at 170 Bridge Street. The rental fee will be about $5 a day. Rentals will be administered by Information Centre staff.
Adults will have to sign a waiver for children renting bikes and credit card information will be taken for insurance purposes.
An additional $500 will be budgeted for helmets, locks, repairs and servicing. The funding for the bike share program comes from the Tourism Trade Show budget which is not being used this year.
