Former Smiths Falls Police Chief Passes Away

After a valiant battle with lung disease, the former chief of police of Smiths Falls has died.

Larry Hardy died April 26 with his devoted wife Khris, and their daughter Khristal by his side.

Hardy developed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in 2011 and had received a double-lung transplant last year.

Hardy worked as a baker, and as a janitor and together he and his wife ran that business before Hardy became a police officer in Exeter, Ont., near London.
From there, he was employed as a police officer for five years before becoming chief of police. He transferred to Smiths Falls in 1990, where he was the chief until retirement in 2012.

It was in 2011 when he was diagnosed with COPD in Ottawa.
