2017 tax rate bylaw passed by Carleton Place Council

cp-budget-2017A special Wednesday night meeting for Carleton Place council focused on passing the 2017 tax rate bylaw.

Late last year the town had announced the tax rate was going up 2.1% for residential ratepayers. For a homeowner with a home valued at $200,000 that works out to be an increase of $27.50 per year.

The bylaw passed last night states the municipal budget levy requirement for Carleton Place amounts to just more than $9,500,000 for 2017, and the BIA Board of Management budget amount is $155,000.

Next week’s meeting is intended to resume on Tuesday night as per usual.

The mayor said this week’s regular meeting was cancelled since many Councillors were unable to attend however, five of the seven-member council were present last night to pass the bylaw.
