Westport Mayor provides update on waste-water treatment plant plans

June 30, 2017 by

westport02Westport Mayor Robin Jones has updated her village on progress of plans to redevelop the waste water system.

In a post on her blog, she writes, “I have been waiting until all of the loose ends were tied up before providing an update on the replacement of the Waste Water Treatment System.

Although staff are still finalizing a couple of issues, it is my expectation that the contract for the new system will be awarded during the July Council meeting on Tuesday, July 4th @ 7:00 p.m.”

She adds, that she plans to wait until that time to fill in the details, however she says she wanted to assure everyone that the build is moving forward this summer.

The village received five bids to do the work to replace the troubled snowfluent system.

The millions it will cost will come from loans and, hopefully, a grant from the province. The village has been denied provincial money for the project in the past, but is optimistic their next attempt will be successful.
