gavelThe man accused in the murder at Last Duel Park last summer is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 2nd.

A judicial pre-trial was held at the end of last month in Perth.

22 year-old Andrew Kravchenko is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 45-year-old James “Jake” Laverdure. The OPP reported at the time of the arrest that Laverdure’s murder is the town’s first homicide in two decades.

Laverdure died of reported stab wounds at the Last Duel Park campground in Perth back in the early hours of Aug. 7, 2016.

On the day of the homicide, witnesses describe a frantic woman screaming, and yelling that her partner had been stabbed in their tent at the campground. The fellow campers say they were woken up by her screams. A lengthy and thorough investigation followed.  Kravchenko was arrested by the OPP after a lengthy investigation, on Dec. 18, 2016.

Police have not officially released a cause of death and no motive has been released either.

Back in March, Kravchenko was denied bail after having his bail hearings rescheduled several times being charged with the killing.

The upcoming preliminary hearing could last a day and a half.
