Carleton Place Dragon Boat Festival boosts arena improvement efforts

Efforts to improve the Carleton Place Arena just got a major boost thanks to a local festival.

Late last month, the Fall 400 Dragon Boat Festival Committee presented the Town of Carleton Place with a cheque for $28,000 (pictured below).

It’s an accumulation of the Dragon Boat Festival’s proceeds over the past two years to be used for Carleton Place Arena upgrades; in particular the new dressing rooms for arena No. 1.

Plans for those upgrades are on hold as finances are worked out as costs have come in higher than expected.

The not-for-profit festival has donated more than $175,000 to local groups since it started in 2002.

The 16th annual Dragon Boat Festival is slated for September 9 in Riverside Park in the town.
