More lockstations open along Rideau Canal but a few are still closed

Smiths Falls LocksParks Canada has opened more lock stations along the canal heading into the weekend, but a few are still closed.

They say due to high water levels and excessive flows, Long Island, Nicholsons, Clowes, Merrickville, Chaffeys, Upper Brewers, Lower Brewers and Kingston Mills Locks remain closed to navigation.

Residents and visitors are reminded to exercise caution around high flowing water. Boaters are also asked to watch their wake as it can be dangerous to other boaters and damaging to properties along the canal.

Parks Canada thanks the public for its patience and cooperation at this time while their team continues to manage water on the system after an unprecedented amount of precipitation.

As the weather continues to cooperate, Parks Canada will have the entire Rideau Canal open for navigation when it is safe to do so.
