New Shed for Conlon Farm gets green light

Conlon Shed LocationThe controversial shed proposed for Conlon farm is finally a go.

At the August 29 meeting council passed a budget deviation of $8,000 and gave staff the green light to go ahead and build the service shed in the right field corner of the Legion Ball Diamond at the southwest end of the Parking lot closest to St John’s High School. That location was decided upon after a site visit, and discussions with Friends of Conlon Farm, a group that wanted to ensure the new building wouldn't take away from the overall look of the area.

Although council did give staff the green light it wasn’t a unanimous decision. Councillors Jim Boldt and Jim Graff both expressed concerns over the cost, and location of the service shed, and voted against the resolution.

The 40' x 28' shed is going to cost the town a total of $51,153.  Of that, $40,000 was already earmarked in the 2017 budget, so staff proposed taking $3,000 from the Property Capital Budget, but still needed an additional $8,000 for the electrical hook up.

The alternate location, at the site of the old shed at the bottom of the toboggan hill, would have cost nearly $65,000 of which almost $14,00 would have been for electrical hookup.
