Traffic stop leads to criminal charge
On Friday September 8th, at approximately 10:29 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Beckwith Street North for a traffic violation. Investigation revealed that the 57 year-old male driver of Smiths Falls had a strong odour of alcohol coming from inside the motor vehicle. Police conducted a roadside screening device on the driver and he blew a “Fail” reading. The suspect was placed under arrest and is charged with, operating a motor vehicle with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. He was later released by way of a promise to appear in court to answer to this charge.
Female arrested for assault and alcohol related offences
On Sunday September 10th at approximately 5:32 p.m. police were called to a residence on Rideau Avenue South for a report of an intoxicated female entering a residence uninvited. The female suspect then fled the residence after being confronted by the residents. Police investigation revealed that the 31 year-old female suspect of Smiths Falls had assaulted another male prior to this incident and urinated in public. The suspect was placed under arrest and is charged with: assault, causing a disturbance, being unlawfully in a dwelling house, indecent exhibition and 2 counts of failing to comply with her probation order. The suspect was held for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.
