CarembackThe upcoming upgrade to the HVAC system at Carambeck Community Centre in Carleton Place is experiencing a setback due to the contractor being unable to honour an outdated price quote.

The Policy Review committee of Carleton Place met on Tuesday night to discuss what to do about the necessary upgrades.

Earlier this year, Town staff obtained three price quotes for the HVAC upgrades at Carambeck Community Centre.

To facilitate the system’s installation, electrical work on the building costing an estimated $70,000 would be required. But plans for the work were not finalized until October of this year, resulting the expiration of A-L Air’s $180,000 quote.

Council has chosen to issue a purchase order to contractor CorCann, whose original quote of around $230,000 plus HST is still being honoured.

The project must be completed by March 2018 to remain eligible for funding by the Canada 150 Infrastructure Program grant received by the town.

Even with higher costs, council expects the project to stay within its original budget confines of $300,000.
