Canopy Growth in Smiths Falls hosts group of Senators

Tweed SFCanopy Growth in Smiths Falls welcomed a handful of Canadian Senators Monday for a knowledge-gaining tour of the facility as the red chamber continues to debate marijuana legalization.

The visit was part of the senators’ study of a bill that sets the framework for making pot legal by this summer.

The tour was requested by Senator Tony Dean, the Senate sponsor of Bill C-45, known alternatively as the Cannabis Act.

It was designed to show Senators how cannabis is grown in commercial quantities, and allow them to ask detailed questions to representatives of the Canopy Growth Corporation, according to the office of Sen. Dean.

All said they were impressed with the facility and the lengths it goes to, to ensure security and quality of the product.

No Conservatives attended the tour. They will have the opportunity to do so at a second tour planned for later this month.
