Carleton Place misses out on LED funding

March 14, 2018 by

Carleton Place LogoThe town of Carleton Place has been informed that it will not be receiving provincial funding for its ongoing project to replace its streetlights with more energy efficient LED lights.

Earlier this year, the town submitted an application to the Ontario Government’s Municipal Greenhouse Gas Challenge Fund to have them provide 50% of the funding for the $900,000 project.

Initially, the town was not eligible for the fund, and council did not apply until after requirements had been relaxed. As a result, the extra funding did not factor into the 2018 budget and the project will continue on as planned.

The news came less than a week after council learned that another provincial fund, the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, had denied funding for the replacement of the central bridge, leaving the town to search for another way to fund a potentially ten million dollar project.
