Boulton House re-development in Carleton Place raises concerns

Carleton Place LogoA possible development on Mill Street in Carleton Place is raising a lot of questions with town staff. The Boulton House property, a redevelopment of what was once Slackoni’s, has become a controversial site due its proximity to residential buildings as well as Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority land.

The Boulton House redevelopment submitted a site plan to the town in March of this year outlining plans for a new restaurant, an expansion of the existing patio, as well as some outdoor waste storage.

However, the exact proposed use of the property has been left unclear. At a pre-consultation meeting with the town this month, developers mentioned the possibility of holding wedding events, leaving neighbouring residents concerned about noise levels.

In order to give the town and neighbouring residents clarity on what the Boulton House development actually entails, town staff has recommended that developers submit a class 2 building permit application.

As part of the application, developers will have to submit a landscaping plan, details on the specific use of the property, and a permit from the MVCA, among other requirements. Developers must meet planning requirements before they’re able to move forward with licensing their facility.
