Small renovation planned for building in Carleton Place’s Riverside Park

RiversideThe town of Carleton Place has announced plans to renovate the northeast portion of the former canteen space in Riverside Park.

The space, which no longer operates as a canteen and is leased by the Carleton Place Canoe Club, has been used in recent years by Urban Ocean as a storage space for their Stand Up Paddle business offered in the park.

Earlier this month, the Canoe Club informed Urban Ocean that the canteen building would be required for additional storage and programming space so they would need to move their paddle boards.

Currently, the only businesses permitted to run in the park are two refreshment vehicles that operate within the summer months. The Stand Up Paddle business had no formal agreement with the town to operate as is.

The renovations to the northeast part of the canteen are expected to cost under $2000 and will see the removal of an unused washroom in order to create enough space for Stand Up Paddle to continue to store its boards.

Should Urban Ocean agree to move into the newly created space, they would also have a chance to enter into an agreement with the town, allowing them to operate as formal business in the park.
