LGTI GP- Derek Morley NewsRecent polls in Guelph say Green Party leader Mike Schreiner is poised to become his party’s first elected MPP. Schreiner previously told Lake 88 that getting an MPP elected in the June 7th election would be seen as a victory.

Derek Morley, Green Party Candidate for the riding of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes told Lake 88’s In Focus he hopes it would help get the party the recognition it deserves. "This is going to be a game changer," said Morley, a first time candidate who is a small business owner. "The Green Party suffers from a lack of exposure, so people don't know what to think of us."

He said should Schreiner win, there will be no excuse to leave him or future leaders of the party out of future Leaders debates. He said that was "a decision that was really just in the hands of the media consortium and not in response to a fair democratic process."

Morley added the excuse given was that the Green Party didn't have a single representative at Queen's Park and, "for this reason we were being excluded."

He said for an entire segment that gets their news exclusively from television, seeing Schreiner on the debate would be a statement of support and enormous recognition for the party. It would also present a balanced view of all party's perspectives.

Morley says he has enjoyed the experience of running for office and has enjoyed the debates. He compliments his fellow candidates as people who are intelligent and fantastic contributors to the community and he’s enjoyed getting a chance to voice his concerns and views to the public.
