Following a delightful dinner served by the Legion Auxiliary, an update from all the town’s service club presidents on their clubs’ activities, and a presentation by Lisa McLean, Marketing Manager for Le Boat, the Smiths Falls Citizen of the year award was announced.

Jackie Coldrey is the 2017 recipient of the T.O Ashwell Memorial Award as the honour is now called.

“This person would be described as very caring, compassionate and considerate,” said Mayor Shawn Pankow in his introduction.

Coldrey has served as treasurer of the Smiths Falls and District Crime Stoppers, as treasurer and newsletter editor and show organizer with the Rideau Lakes Artist Association.  She has been involved with the Friends of the Library for more than 10 years, as secretary and newsletter editor.

Coldrey has also served with the Reverend Norm Johnson Youth Services for 12 years, serving as treasurer, for nine of those years.

“I meet some really wonderful people and all the different committees do a lot of good for the community,” said Coldrey.

She has also been a member of the Smiths Falls and District Arts and Culture Council, serving as treasurer and chair of the membership committee.

“She is a take charge kind of person and is always ready to take on a challenge,” said Pankow.
