The Smiths Falls Police Service welcomes the Special Olympics Torch run to town this morning – the single biggest fundraiser for the Special Olympics every year.

Constable Aaron Thompkins told Lake 88 they will form up in the front parking lot of the Settlers Ridge Mall at 9, then run up Brockville Street to Beckwith Street and end at the Smiths Falls arena.

He also told us that every donation makes a difference. Donations as small as pennies can wind up being vital for the cause.

The police service and Special Olympians are also scheduled to make a stop in the Canadian Tire parking lot after the relay to raise more money for our special Olympians by selling promotional gear.

Yesterday police and volunteers held a successful toll for the cause at the Cornelia Street underpass.
