Could a storefront operation be coming to Tweed in Smiths Falls once marijuana is legalized in Canada?

Reports say that the Ford Tories will announce that they are altering the Liberals approach to selling marijuana in Ontario.

The former Wynne Government gave exclusive selling rights to the LCBO. They would have opened 40 stores this year followed by 80 in 2019 and 150 by 2020.

But sources have told the Globe and Mail and VICE News that an announcement could come as soon as July 31st, that private sales will be allowed. Its not known if the LCBO would be able to sell it too under a new banner dealing exclusively with cannabis sales.

That means that Tweed in Smiths Falls could be allowed to open a store at their Hershey Drive headquarters. That’s something they were flat out denied by the former government, even with town support.

Some say the move could save the province millions of dollars. That would fit in with Doug Ford’s promise to find efficiencies in the province to eliminate needless spending.
