Municipal Election Coverage 2018The deadline for candidates to file nomination papers for municipal elections is this afternoon at 2 pm.

Big changes will come to Perth this year as five current council members are vying for two offices. They are Mayor John Fenik, Deputy Mayor John Gemmel, and Councillor Jim Boldt who are all seeking the mayor’s chair.

Councillors Ed McPherson and Jim Graff are seeking the Deputy Mayor’s position.

Six people are running for five council seats, after local OPP Officer David Bird entered the contest yesterday.

In Smiths Falls, it’s a two horse race thus far. Current Mayor Shawn Pankow is being challenged by Councillor Joe Gallipeau.

A flurry of new nominations in recent days means that 13 people are running for the six Councillor positions in the town.

In Carleton Place, five candidates are running for mayor. They are current Mayor Louis Antonakos, Councillor Douglas Black, Roland Wutherich, Ralph Lee,  and Thomas Doiron.

Running for Deputy Mayor are Craig Rogers and Sean Redmond.

Eleven candidate are running for Councillor, there are five positions up for grabs.
