Update – More lock stations opened along Rideau Canal

Parks Canada has re-opened Brass Point Swing Bridge and the Poonamalie and Beveridges lock stations for navigation.

This is in addition to Ottawa, Narrows, and Newboro lock stations which have remained open.

At a Special Council Meeting on July 24th, Smiths Falls passed a resolution expressing its concerns over proposed regulations governing Asset Management Plans to be filed with the Environmental Registry under the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Parks Canada advises that high water levels have forced the Rideau Canal to close navigation on the waterway between Newboro and Kingston Mills lock station. This means there will be no access to the canal between these two stations until further notice.
