Smiths Falls Mayor Dennis Staples wants the Association of Ontario Municipalities to lobby the provincial government to find out why service clubs can’t donate funds raised through lotteries and bingos to municipalities.
Staples brought the issue up with provincial officials when he attended the Good Roads convention last week in Toronto. He told councillors last night service clubs are now prevented from doing do under the lottery legislation in all municipalities in the province and he wants to know why. Staples said he became aware of the issue 18 months ago when a service club wanted to donate proceeds from their television bingo to build at field house at Lower Reach Park and were prevented from doing so. |
