Lanark Transportation updates pilot project for Lanark County Council
At Lanark County Council’s Community Services Committee meeting held on March 13th, Lanark Transportation Association’s Executive Director, Marilyn Bird provided an overview on her service’s operation and an update on a pilot project for Lanark Highland residents.
Ride the LT has been running Tuesday afternoons for about a year providing shopping trips between Lanark Town Hall and either Carleton Place or Perth offering 2 stops of 45 minutes each or 1 of 90 minutes giving residents opportunities to shop or just socialize at various popular locations along a predetermined route all for the low cost of just two dollars.
Using a 9 passenger mini-bus, LTA is able to offer a much needed service to those without access to a vehicle of their own. The run departs at noon and returns around 3 pm. Users are asked to preregister by 10 am on Mondays. While the route is preset to hit popular shops such as Giant Tiger and Walmart, Bird stated that drivers are flexible as to drop off and pick up spots, especially during inclement weather.
This pilot is expected to run for one more year before review.
