Lake 88 to host Radiothon in May to benefit local hospitals and community health centres

by | Apr 24, 2019 | Local News | 1 comment

Lake 88 will host its first ever Radiothon in May to raise money for local health care.

The Healthy Hospitals Radiothon in support of local hospitals and community health centres will take place on May 23rd from 6 am until 6 pm.

The goal of this fundraising broadcast is to increase awareness and support for our local health care facilities, professionals, programs, and services.

The day will include in-depth interviews with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers as they share vital information about shortfalls in funding for specific programs and equipment needs.

Conversations with patients, past-and-present, will also shed light on the state of our local health care system and highlight some of the extraordinary care local health care workers provide.

Lake 88 Owner and General Manager Brian Perkin said the broadcast will address a local need. “We all pay good taxes in Ontario for health care. But we have to remember that hospitals don’t receive funding from the provincial government to purchase replacement or new equipment,” said Perkin. “Our local facilities count 100% on community support to pay for those items. So we will be directing the donations from this Radiothon directly, to hopefully meet that need.”

All donations made on the day of the Radiothon will remain local, as listeners will be able to direct their donations to their local hospital foundation or community health care centre.

Benefiting from your donations will be:

  • The Almonte General Hospital/Fairview Manor Foundation;
  • The Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation;
  • The Country Roads Community Health Centre serving Portland and Westport;
  • The Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation in Perth;
  • The North Lanark Community Health Centre; and
  • The Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation.

Members from each organization will be sharing the impact of local fundraising in a special series of In Focus Interviews taking place after the News@Noon on Lake 88 from May 20th through the 22nd leading up to our special broadcast.

Keep listening to Lake 88 and watch lake88.ca for more information as the Radiothon approaches.

    What a great idea! Are you having people to answer phones? If so, I would be pleased to help. I have done some work with the CP Hospital Foundation relating my own experience with my husband and know the need for equipment is ongoing and also younger doctors want the newest equipment to work with if we are going to be able to attract them to our rural hospitals. I would love to help in any way.
