County Council hears praise for local paramedics

by | Apr 25, 2019 | Local News | 1 comment

At the end of the regular council session for Lanark County on April 24th, councilor Ed McPherson of Perth, took the time to make a few comments on the performance of county paramedics.

He referred to the vehicle collision in Perth on March 29th and reminded his colleagues around the table that the 2 paramedics that attended that serious and risky situation were themselves in grave danger due to the presence of explosive gas fumes.  He noted that they performed their duties without hesitation and he would be putting both their names forward for recognition of their heroism.

He commented on the recent news from Queen’s Park that the provincial government was considering amalgamating the existing 59 paramedic services into 10 and noted that during his tenure in the service, Ontario had already seen a major reduction in the number of paramedic operations.

He praised his council for helping to build an effective and outstanding service that in his words, he would put up for comparison against the best in the province.

I had a recent visit from the Paramedics on Lorne St. Smiths Falls for Mother at her residence. They were excellent in their grasp of the situation and the handling of my Mother. They were calm but professional and this helped the situation tremedously. They deserve recognition for their undying love and patience for what they do. I feel Premier Ford has gone too far with his cuts to ambulance. This could be the difference between a life saved and a life lost.
