Another successful year at St. John CHS’ Relay for Life in Perth
One of the most successful school-based Relay for Life events in the country is celebrating another terrific year.
Preliminary numbers show that the annual event at St. John Catholic High School this past Friday brought in an amazing $57,000 for Cancer research. And school officials say donations are still coming in so they hope to have a final total by the end of the week.
The event sees students from the school raiser funds for the Relay before taking to the school track for hours on end to help raise awareness for the disease as well.
They got things started with a survivor’s lap, where cancer survivors or patients open the relay with the first lap of the track.
This year also saw elementary schools within the Catholic District School Board take part as part of a Regional Catholic Education Coalition event during Catholic Education Week.
In all 1200 students took part.
