Lanark County Community Justice reaches fundraising goal
Lanark County Community Justice has reached its fundraising goal and as a result will continue to offer its services to the county.
In an email to Lake 88, Board Member Brian Peters says that they surpassed their goal of $30,000 in 30 days, and thanks to the generosity of the community actually raised $32,000.
Peters says the money will allow the group to move forward with their core restorative justice programs for the next year.
Lanark County Community Justice has run their programs for two decades. It is a court diversion program based on referrals from the OPP, the Town of Smiths Falls Police Service, and from the Crown Attorney’s office for both youth and adult offenders.
Its future was put in jeopardy when key funding grants disappeared leaving them scrambling.
