Town Hall scheduled for tonight on the development of Canadian Green New Deal
More than 40 people are expected to participate in a Town Hall gathering tonight on the development of a Canadian Green New Deal to address the climate crisis.
Local organizers made a fast decision to hold a Lanark County event when an affiliation of Canadian national environmental organizations called for the Town Halls.
The idea of a Green New Deal has attracted attention around the world. Fundamentally, it’s a plan for addressing global heating and the climate crisis by creating clean energy jobs and addressing social injustices.
Citizens across the country are hosting some 100 Town Halls and the ideas collected will feed into a national Green New Deal.
Local citizens of Lanark County and Smiths Falls are invited to participate in the event tonight. Simply come to the MIssissippi Valley Conservation office just south of Carleton Place on Hwy 7 for 6 p.m.
The local Town Hall has been organized by an informal group of citizens affiliated with the fledgling Lanark County and Smiths Falls Climate Action Network and the Facebook group CALL – Citizens Call for Climate Action in Lanark County and Smiths Falls.
