Carleton Place arena renovations growing to accommodate future population needs
The upcoming renovations at the Carleton Place arena, originally meant to add some new change rooms, have become a much larger project than what was first anticipated.
Earlier this year, council had budgeted money to construct a second floor as part of the change room addition. A new set of plans were needed in order to proceed, so council took the time to deliberate over what these new plans could involve.
During Tuesday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, the town decided that the project would be expanded to include a two-storey addition as well as improvements to the lobby of the arena.
While discussing the changes to the arena, council was hoping to future proof the arena to be able to handle the continued growth of the town and the increased demand for arena services that will come with that.
Floor plans have yet to be drawn up for what the new additions will look like, but $2.5 million have been budgeted for the project, and staff is projecting costs to stay within that limit.
