Former Chief of Staff to Premier Ford, Dean French, withdraws lawsuit against MPP Randy Hillier

Independent MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston Randy Hillier has been advised in writing that Dean French, the former Chief of Staff to Premier Doug Ford, has withdrawn his claim of libel against Hillier unreservedly and without costs.

Hillier said in a statement that he is happy to turn the page on this.

He added, while French and he didn’t see eye-to-eye on many things, I am glad we have found something we can agree on.

French had alleged that certain tweets and retweets posted by Mr. Hillier on Twitter represented a “malicious campaign” to harm his reputation.

Hillier countered that his tweets and retweets were matters for public consumption, as they covered matters already in the public domain.

Hillier’s statement concludes with a statement: “I believe the right decision has been made here, and I am happy to see this distraction ended.”
