Ontario Green Party Leader to visit Brockville
Submitted by the Green Party of Ontario
Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario and MPP for Guelph will visit Brockville Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
The Greens of Leeds Grenville Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes (LGTIRL) will host a discussion on Food Security, Agriculture and Climate Crisis at the Brockville Public Library, 23 Buell Street at 5:00 pm.
This event is open to the public. Anyone with an interest in agriculture and local food is welcome to attend.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet with the Green Party’s three-time local candidate for LGTIRL Lorraine Rekmans, Indigenous Affairs Critic. Rekmans was on the ballot in 2015 and 2018.
Mike Schreiner’s career before entering politics was focused heavily on sustainable food production and the local food movement. He started one of the first local organic food companies in Ontario before making his foray into politics.
“We must do everything we can to protect our farmland so that future generations continue to have fresh, nutritious and affordable food. Climate change makes this even more critical,” said Schreiner.
“In its latest report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change describes how agriculture, deforestation, and other human activities have altered 70% of the land on Earth’s surface. In these times we should be having these discussions about how to shore up food security in every forum we can find,” said Rekmans.
