South Korean Ambassador visits Carleton Place
Carleton Place played host to a delegation representing the Republic of South Korea on Tuesday night.
The Korean embassy has recently been reaching out as part of the country’s efforts to enhance ties with other countries. Stopping in Carleton Place was a chance for them to see more of Canada.
Ambassador Maeng-ho Shin tells Lake 88 that Carleton Place’s 200th anniversary made this the perfect time for a visit.
“I heard that Carleton Place is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the founding of the town, so we wanted to celebrate together,” said Shin. “At the same time, we wanted to introduce Korean culture to Carleton Place’s citizens. I think this kind of activity is part of public diplomacy. We’re trying to strengthen our cultural, economic and people to people ties between us.”
Before stopping by Town Hall to speak to council and meeting attendees, Ambassador Shin and members of his staff attended a wreath laying at the Carleton Place Cenotaph before treating Councillors to a sampling of traditional Korean food.
