More than 2000 charges laid during OPP’s Operation Impact over the long weekend

OPP across the East Region laid 2031 traffic-related charges over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Among the charges laid, there were more than 1500 for speeding (36 of those stunt driving), 15 impaired related charges, 17 for distracted driving and 155 seatbelt violations.

OPP officers across East Region stopped more than 2000 vehicles during Operation Impact.

In the previous two weeks officers stopped nearly 2800 vehicles during the Fall Seatbelt Campaign, October 2-11, laying 621 charges.

“Wearing your seatbelt should be automatic as soon as you get in the vehicle,” said Inspector Paul Bedard, East Region OPP Manager of Traffic and Marine Programs. “It is amazing that something that is so simple and so effective is still ignored by so many people.”

Safety on our roadways is everyone’s responsibility. If you see dangerous driving or suspect a driver of being impaired, call 9-1-1 immediately.
