Frontenac County asking all to stay away from Heart Lake, despite its appeal

Frontenac County is urging Instagrammers to take their hunt for the perfect picture away from the now-famous Heart Lake near Ompah.

The lake, shaped like a nearly-perfect heart, has become a popular spot for social media users over the past few years, but the county is now telling people to stay away.

The County turned to its own Instagram account to post a message saying they know the Lake is amazing, “but you need to stop visiting!

The post says, “We get it, it IS beautiful. But there is no public access. You’re trespassing on private property, and that’s not right. PLUS, hunting season is a very dangerous time to be wandering around in the forest.”

They ask that people stay safe, be respectful, and stick to admiring the pics on their screens.

Within the past month, an account promoting Ontario tourism and an account promoting tourism in North America have posted images of the lake. Frontenac County itself posted an image of the lake on Valentine’s Day in 2018.
