Smiths Falls student Councillor Lee looking forward to term

by | Nov 6, 2019 | Local News | 0 comments

Grace Lee is a 16-year old Grade 11 student, who has joined Smiths Falls Council as a student Councillor.

While she doesn’t have a vote on council, she is able to participate in discussions, share her point of view and report on activities in town during the Councillor reports solicited at the start of every council meeting.

Lee told Lake 88 it’s an opportunity for her to pursue something she finds interesting.

“I was approached by a faculty member at our school who thought I might be interested in the position, and I am,” she said. “I am really interested in politics so I thought I would see what the position was about.”

She also thinks it may help her make decisions on her future. “I’m thinking I’d like to study it in post secondary educations, I’m not sure exactly where my career path is going to go at the moment but it’s definitely a possibility. It’s a really great opportunity for students like me.”

Highly articulate, Lee had no fear jumping in to add her voice in support of joining the Federations of Canadian Municipality’s Partners for Climate Protection initiative at last week’s committee discussions.
