Smiths Falls provides information on lead testing in town
With reports of lead appearing in water systems across the country, the town of Smiths Falls wanted to let residents know where it stands when it comes to lead an its drinking water.
While the drinking water supplied by the town surpasses provincial and federal requirements, the town notes that it can come into contact with lead in the ‘service lines’ (the pipes that connect each property to the water main).
They note that lead can also be found in the plumbing materials in the home, such as lead pipes, brass fittings, and lead solder, particularly in homes built prior to 1955.
If you are concerned about the possibility of lead in your drinking water, the Town can arrange to have your water sampled as part of its residential testing program.
If you’d like to know more, please contact the Public Works and Utilities Department at 613-283-4124 Ext 5501 or 5502, you can also make arrangements for a test at that number.
