Two Smiths Falls area men convicted after a string of summer break and enters that left the town and surrounding areas on edge
The Smiths Falls Police service reports that two Smiths Falls area men charged after a string of break and enters this past summer in and around the town, have been convicted.
Both 33 year-old Adam Jackson and 60 year-old Richard Halladay of the Smiths Falls area, were found guilty of committing numerous break and enters over the summer months of 2019 in and around the Smiths Falls area.
Jackson was sentenced to serve 9 months in custody followed by a 3 year probation order with conditions. Halladay has yet to be sentenced by the courts.
The incidents began in the area in late July, with most break-ins and thefts occurring at night at homes in Smiths Falls as well as areas of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Counties.
Reports say elderly people who lived alone were frequent targets. Some told Lake 88 that they woke up to find strangers in their homes going through cabinets or night stands. Many changed their locks after the break-ins, but continued to worry that the perpetrators could return.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
31 year old Kyle Wallace of Smiths Falls also faces charges in connection with the robberies. Wallace is charged with three counts of break and enter, one count of trespass by night, and one count of breaching his probation order.
At the time of his arrest back in late August he was held for a bail hearing.
