Salvation Army launches annual kettle campaign
The annual local Salvation Army Kettle Campaign is underway, and bells are now ringing alongside kettles in Perth, Smiths Falls, Carleton Place and Almonte.
The Salvation Army of Mississippi-Rideau Lakes, which covers a large portion of our listening area, wants to ensure the public that the funds raised in your community stay in your community too.
The money raised goes to fund the charitable efforts by the Salvation Army for the full year too, not just at Christmas. However Christmas efforts like the hundreds of hampers sent out to families in need throughout the county are funded by the donations you put in the kettles.
And they need volunteers to help make that a reality. Volunteering is something the Salvation Army’s Debbie says is easy and rewarding.
“Either go into one of our offices and ask, or give us a call and we’ll put you in touch with someone who will give you a slot.” said Lafleur. “And its a lot of fun too. You see people you haven’t seen in years and its a good feeling to give back to the community,” she added.
The number to call is 613-283-3563. Just call, let them know which town you’re in, when you’re available and they will do the rest.
