Tay Valley Twp. Mayor Brian Campbell elected Warden for Lanark County
At Lanark County council on Wednesday, November 27th, a new warden was elected to lead for 2020. Tay Valley Township Reeve Brian Campbell (pictured) won over Lanark Highlands Mayor Peter McLaren.
In his speech before the vote was taken, Campbell reviewed his history on various county council committees as well as his commitment and ability to obtain consensus and help with actions on the challenging issues facing Lanark in the upcoming year.
He covered the concerns of county owned contaminated property in Carleton Place, affordable housing, youth homelessness, ongoing infrastructure maintenance, provincial downloads and funding reductions, among others.
He also spoke of the successes of the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail and the county’s vegetation management plan which lead to Lanark becoming the first community in North America to win a pollinator protection award.
Campbell told Lake 88 that there is much work to be done, and he is looking forward to getting started. “We have a property issue in Carleton Place that we have to deal with, how we deliver local public health care after the new reorganization of the LIHNs (Local Integrated Health Networks), climate change,” said the Warden elect. “These are things that will take time. But I look forward to being part of and guiding those discussions and helping council and staff with those decisions in the upcoming year,” he added.
Campbell will be installed officially as county warden in a ceremony on December 3.
